A Christ-centered approach to intentional living

Welcome to My Blog

A very warm welcome to you.

My name is Linda Karkafi, author of Thrive to Make a Difference and I’m delighted to have you visit my blog.

The ministry of Thrive to Make a Difference was born from a desire God placed on my heart to thrive in the life God has called me to live, and to find purpose and perspective in the seemingly mundane moments of life.

In this blog I share my experiences as a wife, mother of four and business owner, and how the Lord has helped me develop a strong sense of focus and fulfilment in my life. I regularly share Christ-centered encouragement from the Word of God to help you thrive in your walk with Jesus.

I would be honoured if you would join me on this journey where we can thrive together in our relationship with Jesus and make a real difference in this world for eternity.

I would also like to invite you to join our community on Instagram and facebook @thrivetomakeadifference

Thank you again for your interest in my blog. I pray that I can be a blessing and encouragement to you this year and beyond.

God bless you!

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen (Ephesians 3:20-21).

Will you trust God with your life?

God wants to do something new and beautiful in your life. The question is, will you trust Him?

In Isaiah 41, the Lord promises to bring vitality and nourishment in the midst of the wilderness. Rivers in high places, fountains in the valleys and springs of water in dry land. Why?

In verse 20 He explains.. “that they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this…”

We can expect to face valleys in our lives and seasons of wilderness, however we can also have great expectation that our holy and righteous God will be faithful to His promises and will carry us through the difficult days.

The truth is that God wants to be glorified through us. He wants the world to come to Him for salvation and He wants to use us to reveal Himself to others (what a privilege!).

While we may feel discouraged or downcast, we can always have hope in Jesus. We can have hope that He will carry us through and that He has blessings awaiting us – if only we place our trust in Him.

Beautiful sister, I don’t know what you’re going through right now – but I know the amazing God who is holding you in His Hand today. I know He is able to nourish and sustain you through this time. I know He can do a new thing in your life and resurrect your passion for Him and His work.

Surrender your heart to Jesus afresh and choose to follow Him wholeheartedly.

Remind yourself daily that God can do the impossible in your life and He will never let you down.

God bless you ❤️

Nurture your soul daily

We can flourish in our walk with Christ as vibrant trees planted by the riverside.

If only we would walk away from the allures of this world and delight in God’s holy Word. There we will find peace, growth and purpose.

Are you daily nurturing your soul with the precious Word of God. It’s the only place where we can find true, deep satisfaction.

Connect with your Creator today dear sister and flourish.

God bless you ❤️

“And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, That bringeth forth his fruit in his season” (Psalm 1:3)

6 Lessons I have learned over the past 12 months

It’s hard to believe that my beautiful baby boy is already One! I can’t stop praising God for the amazing son He has blessed us with. We all adore Him to bits and have enjoyed every day of the past 12 months, as we’ve watched him grow to be one of the happiest and most charming little boys ever. He truly has completed our family ❤️

After some time away from social media I wanted to share with you some of the lessons I have learned over this wild and wonderful time of caring for four precious souls:

1. When life gets overwhelming: Pause, pray & plan to only do what’s absolutely essential (dinner, devotions & loads of love) – the rest can wait!

2. Always spend time with Jesus, no matter how stretched you feel. The Lord is your lifeline and anchor, you can’t do anything well without Him.

3. Every now and then ask yourself: What’s something I feel like doing today? It may be as simple as a cup of tea with a good book, it could be a walk around the block or a chat with your best friend. Once you think of something – make it happen. As mothers we often push aside our interests….but I’ve learned that it’s not healthy.

4. Communicate with your husband. Each week go through your schedules, discuss your main focuses and make decisions about practical things like meals, school runs, errands, supplies, commitments etc. You can avoid many issues and create peace at home when you’re clear on where you’re heading and how you plan to work together to get there.

5. Above all, pray. All day. All night. Make your prayers a continual conversation with Jesus. Tell Him how you feel. Tell Him what you desire. Speak to Him everywhere you go. And He will walk beside you. He will be present with you through all of life’s ups and downs – because He is good and kind and ever so faithful.

6. Remember your ‘why’: the reason you do everything you do each day.

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ” (Colossians 3:23-24).

Sending you all much love with these words. May you be filled with the love of Christ and find rest in His presence each day ❤️

Dwell with Jesus

Take your deepest concerns to Jesus. He has just the right words to bring you clarity and peace.

Unless we dwell in the presence of God and meet with Him daily we cannot expect to have peace and clarity in our lives.

Jesus alone can direct our thinking and support us through whatever comes our way each day.

Turn to your Almighty God dear sister. Sit with the Word of God before you. Pray. Ask for God to speak to your soul. Share all your thoughts and feelings. Invite Jesus to respond to your deepest concerns and allow Him to whisper words of comfort and assurance through His powerful Word.

Come before the Lord with expectation. Ask Him with Faith. He will help you, heal you and restore you. Simply believe that your Creator is able to give you the sweetest life, if you just trust Him and take heed to His instructions.

I’m so glad that I have a faithful God who has never left me and never will. He always comes through for me and delivers on His promises. He is the One I trust and He is the answer to all of life’s problems.

Never compromise sweet sis. Never think you’ll get to God’s Word later. The Bible is precisely what you need this hour. Go on….dwell with Jesus, you will never walk away disappointed.

Blessings

Luke 10:41-42 “And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: but one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”

He is able

You can thrive and succeed in the life God has called you to live!

Write it on a post it note sister and make it visible in your home this week.

God is able to make the impossible, possible…He’s done it before and He’ll do it again.

Stand up and remember, He is able.

Blessings to you sweet sis xo

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).

Trust in the Lord

When the day feels long and hard, this verse speaks to my soul. It reminds me to simply do the next right thing and place my trust in Jesus. And things always get better.

Sometimes thriving is simply about faithfully taking the next step in the right direction, even when you don’t feel like it.

God bless you 🙏

Psalm 4:5 “Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD”

How has social media impacted your lifestyle?

I was reflecting today about social media and what life was like before it infiltrated practically every aspect of our lives.

I was thinking about the days where I actually used public phones to call my parents when I was ready to be picked up from the shops or how I researched assignments in the university library, yes reading actual books (…and no Google! 😯).

I thought about where I turned first for parenting advice, homemaking ideas or Sunday school lesson inspiration.

Well…. I recall more in-depth personal research and discussion, and less distraction from posts on the “5 things to do to help you X, Y, Z”

I remember making great use of the few Bible commentaries and dictionaries I owned (and still cherish!) to make sure I thoroughly understood the text I was teaching my Sunday school students, and less reliance on curriculum and resources (while teaching materials are of course still incredibly useful….I miss the days of digging for the truth and finding ways to explain concepts …just me and the Lord).

I still believe there are some good corners left on the internet, but overall I think it’s wise to look back at how life used to be and find ways to reintroduce the good stuff that social media seems to have pulled away from us….like:

More reading, less scrolling
More talking, less texting
More walking, less lounging
More praying, less “searching”

Interested to know your thoughts…what would you add?

I’m sure that overwhelm and anxiety is rarely soothed in online spaces. But I know that we would be much better off if we adopted some good old habits that have slowly slipped away to make room for online activities.

Perhaps you feel you need a break or yearn for simplicity in your life again…. or perhaps you crave for clarity of mind.

Would you consider what your life was like before social media exploded and pick a few things you miss…and bring them back into your life again?

Blessings
Linda ❤️

Carve out space

Is there a more beautiful way to start the week than with the Lord?

Carving out space for solitude can feel impossible for us mothers, yet it is where we can find the richest source of strength and grace to be the women God has called us to be.

Pray you have a sweet time with your Saviour today….please share where you’re reading from these days…I’m in 2 Kings.

Jeremiah 15:16
“Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.”

Cast your cares before the cross

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (verse 7).”

I really appreciate the simplicity and power of God’s promises. He calls us not to worry about anything….but instead, to pray with gratitude about everything.

The result….the perfect peace of God…the peace that the world is searching for and trying to fabricate with great failure.

Sister, only Jesus can pour his precious, pure and perfect peace into your heart. Simply trust Him. Cast your cares before the cross and pray. Then enjoy the weight coming off your shoulders…..and experience His divine peace in your life.

God bless you ❤️

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (Philippians 4:6)

He lives

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

Happy Easter!

LUKE 24:5-7
‘The women were very afraid and bowed their heads to the ground. The men said to them, “Why are you looking for a living person in this place for the dead? He is not here; he has risen from the dead. Do you remember what he told you in Galilee? He said the Son of Man must be handed over to sinful people, be crucified, and rise from the dead on the third day.” Then the women remembered what Jesus had said.’
